Prairie Paws Adoption Center, 2222 W. Warrior Trl., is seeking the public’s help temporarily housing animals while construction crews tear out ceiling panels to install new duct work and knock down walls to complete new kennels. The construction is predicted to begin in May and will approximately take one month to complete. It will not affect the operating hours of the shelter, but will temporarily displace over 20 dogs (medium-large size) and 20 cats.

The construction is part of the shelter’s expansion project that started in March 2017 and is predicted to be complete summer 2018. The new expansion will triple the amount of cat capacity, double the amount of dog capacity, and expand the surgical area to increase the number of spay/neuter surgeries, heartworm treatments and dental health.

The temporary foster homes do not have to be located in Grand Prairie, but must be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Fosters must be at least 21-years-old.

Two special needs miniature poodles are looking for holiday heroes this season.  Rescued from a puppy mill, Sidney and Lady Felicia will require a lot of love after their ordeal.

Lady Felicia is an eight-pound, eight-year-old, black and white poodle who is blind in one eye and partially blind in the other.  She was treated for heartworms on November 1. Lady loves treats and attention and walks well on a leash, due to her remaining peripheral vision.  She’s called "lady" but she thinks she’s a princess!

Sidney is a five-year-old, fifteen-pound, grey and black poodle with severe anxiety.  He’s going to need a lot of love, patience, and reassurance.  This beautiful boy is a project.  He’s not looking for a master; he’s looking for a miracle.

For more information or to adopt Lady Felicia or Sidney, contact Danielle Tate, Manager of Prairie Paws Adoption Center at 972-237-8578 or dtate@gptx.org.
