Approximately 80 students across three of the seven fine arts strands offered at the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy (GPFAA) will travel to Memphis, Nashville, Washington, D.C. and New York City during Spring Break as part of an East Coast Tour. Mariachi, Orchestra and Vocal Music students will have the opportunity to perform for local inner city schools, tour colleges, compete in festivals and explore many of the educational offerings in each of these historic and culturally rich cities.

With this tour, GPFAA looks to be an ambassador for innovative and successful arts programs across the nation. Rather than slash the fine arts budget, GPISD has dedicated this school to the study of Fine Arts. The tour also looks to offer GPFAA students an exceptional learning experience that will expand their ambitions beyond the classroom and into an academic university, an arts conservatory or to pursue a professional artistic endeavor. “Our students dedicate their academic, artistic, and free time to pursing their passion within the fine arts; any experience we can provide them within this realm will only enhance their intrinsic motivation to continue their education post-high school” says Ms. Schell, Principal at GPFAA. This tour is a prime example of the type of student enrichment opportunities that make GPFAA unique and provides a critical piece of the education puzzle.

GPFAA is dedicated to the notion that arts are intended for all to experience, and “all means all.” Support GPFFA students as they take their talents to the East Coast by donating to help cover the costs of travel, accommodations, meals and educational sightseeing: http://www.gofundme.com/GPFAAEastCoastTour. Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy (GPFAA) is an open enrollment, public school for grades 6-12 with a focus on advanced academics and advanced fine arts. It is one of the many schools of choice within the education portfolio offered by the Grand Prairie Independent School District, located in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The school uses an application and formal audition process to select students for one of the seven fine arts strands of study: Art, Band, Dance, Mariachi, Orchestra, Theatre and Vocal Music. GPFAA provides students with a rigorous academic environment, encourages artistic excellence and provides professional enrichment activities along with multiple opportunities to showcase their talents.
