May 1, 2015 – DALLAS – The MetroTex Association of Realtors today announced its decision to endorse Tony Shotwell in his re-election bid for Grand Prairie City Council. MetroTex President Steve Habgood applauded Shotwell’s commitment to Texas homeowners.

“North Texas is experiencing an exciting and challenging housing market,” said Habgood. “That’s why we need local leaders like Tony Shotwell who understand the impact of key decisions on housing in their communities.”

Dallas-Fort Worth has the nation’s most active housing market, with days on market among the shortest in the country and sales rising at twice the national average rate. To maintain that momentum, local governments must understand homeowners’ concerns and act to bolster homeownership in the area. Supporting those efforts is the Association’s top priority this election season. Through the candidate interview process of the MetroTex Association of Realtors, Tony Shotwell clearly showed a command of issues critical to sustaining our economy, as well as the needs and challenges our fast-growing area will encounter in the future.

Early voting continues through May 5, 2015 with Election Day on May 9.

North Texas Realtors have championed a number of legislative issues enhancing the lives of Texans, such as urging reforms to the property appraisal system in 2011 and 2009, preventing a tax of $600 or more on the personal vehicles of independent Texans in 2007 and advocating for billions in property tax reductions in 2005.
